I think the reason Santa doesn’t want to let buddy replace him is not because he’s stubborn, but because he does care about him and doesn’t want buddy to suffer as a result of having to BE Santa. It’s a thankless, tiring job that’ll wear on you over the years. He sees buddy as very naive and doesn’t wanna crush him with the endless years on the job, potentially destroying his Christmas spirit. Just because he can doesn’t mean he’s truly prepared.

What makes a Christmas movie is that it takes place during Christmas, gifts and Christmas decorations shown(even for a brief moment), Christmas music, and snow. Based off this, Die Hard is absolutely a Christmas movie.
