Google is now a mega corporation run by managers and lawyers. Been there, not great.
That is a drastic culture shift at Google. Gmail started as a side project by a Google engineer

I use gemini a lot. For guess what, spacial reasoning and data analysis, not for coding. It's what it's built for. And it's good at that (and only that)

My take is that he was fired because he didn’t follow a process to gain necessary approval for open sourcing a project, which is something that any reasonable company would require before. Something is publicly released.
