"Android just got WAY more open" is a odd way to phrase forcing everything on your device to get approval from google.
Android got WAY more locked down and google doubled down on blocking app installation outside the play store (I used the term sideloading originally despite agreeing that you should be able to install anything you want from anywhere, a phone is a computer, but I just wrote the comment quickly and sideloading is a concise term)
This change is one step forward, but the other changes are two steps back.
"Google was forced to stop acting as a monopoly, and immediately found a way to keep being a monopoly, and android is going to become even more locked dowm." - there, fixed your title. They are destroying 'side loading' while pretending to give more options. no more 'unregistered' or 'uncertified' devs
Calling out the BS. This is literally Google turning Android like the iOS walled garden, and they want your personal info and money for doing the same.
They still cut %20 on sales made outside Play Store? Openness? Wtf?
Theo: _does math to prove that google is scamming developers to ensure that they keep making similar amounts of money_ Also Theo: "now, I don't think google is doing this for the money, they're just *really* concerned about viruses" -_-
they no longer build aosp in public. it's all behind closed doors. only releases are public. in what sense is that more open?
It's basically the "age verification" movement but on Android development. Pretend to be something for a false cause but mainly for control
Ok Google, now undo the Developer Control Program, err, Verification.
