When I was a child, I watched Mr. Rogers every. single. day and I thought he was talking to JUST me. I feel like Dr. Huberman is the Mr. Rogers of my adult life because every. single. topic eerily tracks to my life 😁🙏🏽 Great listen here.
I have heard someone say that “an organized desk is the sign of a disorganized mind,” but I keep my desk ordered PERFECTLY: I know exactly which way the penguin faces on my desk, like that nutcase in the movie Misery. 😂

Dr. Huberman, a conversation with Dr. John J. Ratey on exercise, BDNF, and neuroplasticity would be a perfect fit for the Huberman Lab.
I have a sit-stand desk, and during my sitting time, I alternate between a desk chair and a huge yoga ball. I can roll around a little on the ball, which keeps my SI joints from freezing up, and the movement helps me stay focused. I'm pretty happy with this setup. Also, I have to have my desk right up against the window so that when I look up from my work I'm looking to a distance. I've not always known why this is that I have such a strong preference for that setup, but this podcast is helping me understand. Not only does looking up from my work keep my eyes from fatiguing, but it gives me sort of that cathedral effect if I'm trying to switch from the analytic to the abstract. And I have my back to the door of my home office where I can completely ignore what's out that door behind me and whatever distractions other people in the household may bring when I'm trying to focus. Awesome episode! Thank you!
The biggest takeaway for me: optimize the inputs, not your willpower. Bright light early … dimmer light later. Screen at eye level. 45 min focus / 5 min panoramic vision (no phone). And if you’re stuck, change the environment (cathedral effect is underrated). I’m building a simple “workspace checklist” around this on my channel too.
I have my workspace in front of my bedroom window. I love it. I’m able to think clearly and see nature at the same time.❤🎉😊
¡Hola Profe!Do to this solo episode I started experimenting with positioning myself differently for different tasks at my table. From facing the wall to pretty much looking at the horizon. And I am amazed how well it works.Thank You for all Your hard work and care for all of us.
5:35 turn overhead lights in the afternoon 5:50 4-5 PM start transitioning the environment to more yellows and reds 10:45 45 min focus 5 min panoramic vision 12:15 cathedral effect - high ceiling environments
What I appreciate most is how actionable this is. No hype, just simple environmental shifts that actually improve focus
