The reason they don't allow speakers on Cowles Mountain, which is in San Diego County, for anyone wondering, is because it's riddled with rattlesnakes and if you're playing music, you can't hear them if there happens to be one near you. My sister and I used to hike it 2-3 times a week, and one time we saw a snake about 3 feet away from my sister. As per usual when she encounters scary nature, she screamed, we both panicked and proceeded to sprint all the way from the stairs at the top of the mountain to the parking lot. We made it down the mountain in less than 5 minutes.

39:00 The thing that bothers me THE MOST about this story is the excuse the guy gave about the park being "public land". I feel like people in the US don't really understand what that means. A space being public is EXACTLY the reason why you should NOT be listening to loud music. A public space means you have to be mindful of other people there, because you're SHARING a space, a common space, with other people. If a space is public then that means you're NOT allowed to do whatever you want. Not the other way around. That would be a PRIVATE space, preferably your own.

38:25 parks try to have more regulation, as insect and bird populations are vulnerable to even noise pollution. not sure if it's a law, but breaking rules on land like that can definitely get you a citation.

Public parks can most certainly have rules like no smoking, no littering, no speakers Etc

As a girl who was raised fishing with her father, that one story broke my heart. Good on that dad for wanting to include his daughter.

For the speaker hiking story, you really have to consider the fact that this is in nature and animals live there. Loud noises can disrupt mating, scare the animals, and be dangerous to hikers. If there’s a rattlesnake on the trail you need to be able to hear it. I think the poster was only thinking about the human side of this story but when hiking you’re passing through an animals home

I currently live in Buffalo NY and that story is literally why they call it the “city of good neighbors”. As I listen to the story I started to tear up cause people died during this blizzard and this guys were blessed to survived to tell that story.
