I can’t even begin to describe how traumatic it is to be the kid that your mom decides to tell she wishes she were dead to. I really felt for Anthony here because while your parent moves on and gets out of that dark place, they don’t even think about how you will be forever scarred by that moment.
I’m living for the headcanon that Simon is always just off screen. It’s honestly my favorite interpretation of his absence after the first season.
How does everyone not understand Kates mom died, her dad remarried Edwinas mom . Kate and Edwina are half siblings.

After many rewatches of this season, episode 3 is really the turning point for me because Anthony is kind of insufferable and Kate is so guarded up until now. Both of them soften, either in our experience with them (Anthony’s backstory) or Kate’s character relaxing (actually laughing and also her concern with Edwina), and you start to see how they could be as a couple. Greg’s absolutely right this is classic Bridgerton, especially with the weaving of the backstories. Also my fave early Benedict episode 😂
During the game of pall mall, Edwina appears awkward because the atmosphere of the Bridgerton family is very different from the world she is used to navigating. Edwina has spent most of the season being presented as the perfect young lady—graceful, polite, and careful about following social expectations. She approaches situations with refinement and restraint, wanting to make a good impression and behave properly. Pall mall, however, is not treated as a gentle pastime by the Bridgertons. For them, the game is chaotic, competitive, and full of teasing rivalry. The siblings bend rules, mock each other, and play aggressively. Edwina struggles to engage with that energy. Instead of jumping into the competition, she remains reserved and slightly uncertain, unsure how to participate in a game that seems less about etiquette and more about spirited confrontation. Kate, on the other hand, fits naturally into this environment. She is outspoken, bold, and not intimidated by the Bridgerton siblings or their competitiveness. Rather than trying to appear perfectly behaved, she simply plays the game as fiercely as everyone else. Her sharp wit and willingness to challenge Anthony match the family’s dynamic, and she quickly becomes part of the banter instead of standing outside it. While Edwina is careful and composed, Kate is instinctive and unafraid to clash. This difference is also why Kate suits Anthony far better. Anthony himself is proud, competitive, and intense. He respects strength and enjoys a challenge, which Kate provides effortlessly. She does not try to please him or impress him with perfection; instead, she argues with him, questions him, and meets him on equal footing. Their personalities mirror each other’s intensity, creating a dynamic built on mutual understanding and challenge. Edwina’s gentleness and idealized view of romance make her admire Anthony, but Kate understands him. She can stand beside him rather than simply look up to him, which is why she ultimately proves to be the partner who truly complements him.
