The shoe being killed in the acid still stabs me deep in my soul as an adult.
Fun fact, The Dip is "real". Turpentine, acetone, and benzene were in paint thinners that animators would use to remove ink from animation cels.
FYI: Betty Boop, is voiced by the OG actress from the 40s. Also, you've seen her maybe in CHRISTMAS VACATION, as one of the great grandparents
Low-key my favorite line in this movie is Betty Boop’s ‘yeah! what a lucky girl!’ about Jessica being married to Roger. To toon sensibilities, ROGER is the desirable one.
Bob Hoskins said in an interview: his young son was mad at him for weeks, when Bob asked whats wrong his son said "You worked with Mickey Mouse and didnt introduce him!!!" 😂😂😂😂 soooo cute!!
The reason the script feels legit is because it is. It was originally supposed to be the sequel to "Chinatown" but couldn't get approved, so they combined it with another script and resubmtted it. It's based on the historical events in San Francisco dealing with the auto industry pushing out the trolley car services that dominated the public transportation sector.
All the animation was hand drawn, frame by frame. They used over 300 artists to pull this off.
Bob Hoskins said that after working on this so long he actually started to see them.
I keep forgetting that I'm watching actual Californians watch a movie where they have their own scenery on screen, kinda trippy lol
