liam does in fact randomly come up in my algorithm and i always think "huh that's a very normal take" so this was a fun ep
The crossover we didnt know we needed.... Kbai
OMG, not expecting to see Liam here!!!
Corseting wasn’t about waist training originally, it was to support the heavy skirts (hoop skirts, petticoats, bum rolls, etc) and were often in vogue at the same time as being bigger was since it’s a sign of wealth. Cinching to make the waist smaller is a more modern use of a corset.
Not a surprise at all that Liam is a mythical beast
Liam single handedly saved my relationship with food, and Mythical Kitchen nurtured it! This makes my heart happy - thanks for this! ❤️
It is a misconception that corseting was to be smaller. It was for modesty and support. Basically a bra that holds your back and skirts. Silhouette was formed by padding not by shrinking. Back then being skinny was not attractive, just means you were poor and weak.
The "If it's a salad then it's healthier" logic kills me. I will always go for a giant Cesar salad and someone goes "Oh, are you trying to eat healthier?" and I just have the blankest stare, "There are zero things healthy being decided here."
Corsets were originally for support and shaping, but not intended for restriction like we think- that’s a myth invented literally by men who didn’t like them. We used to make the clothes fit us and use padding and layers to create the extreme shapes we see in pictures- we only flipped it the other way around in the post-industrialization era!
Never seen the show or listened to it, but here for Liam, thank you for giving him the recognition he deserves!
