This is Nathaniel’s sister. Thank you so much for covering his case and sharing 💙
The fact that a minor can even be considered a runaway is pretty sad. They are missing, period.
I think any missing kid should be taken seriously, whether they ran away or not. I know resources are limited, but every child matters.
As someone who “ran away” at 17 and left a note. The police did not find me my parents did. If they had not done anything to find me I’d be dead. No teenager or kid is a willing run away even if they think they are.
As a former teacher, the role the school played ooor the lack thereof truly disturbs me
I think his distress/desperation after mom took the pills away was because he knew he would be suffering withdrawls in a few hours without them. The 'holding it for a friend' excuse is one of the oldest ones in the book. He didn't want to be honest with mom about how much he needed those pills to avoid withdrawls because that would also mean admitting that he'd been abusing them for a long time and this wasn't a new thing. Kendall mentions he admitted to using benzodiazapines and those are the WORST withdrawls from a drug a person can have. Worse than H. Him leaving school I believe has to do with this factor because you just can't function without them once your body is hooked.
Missing persons cases where they literally just dissappear off the face of the earth always gives me chills. How do these people never get spotted and found. If a body is found they have a small glimmer of coming to terms with things and having answered questions, people who just vanish don't. His poor family. I hope he is found safe. Also side note, he shouldn't have been brushed off as a runaway at all. They absolutely should have investigated properly. He was a child.
Nathaniel was one of my close childhood friends hes such a light and is the nicest and best person I've ever known ❤ thank you so much for covering this and spreading the word about him ❤
Regardless if a child "ran away" or not, they are still CHILDREN.
Rather than being labeled a runaway until proven missing, it should be always be considered missing until proven otherwise!
