Tested: Tesla Model Y Performance vs. Model 3 Performance | How Does the SUV Stack Up?

What a weird review. Complaints really about tires and that it doesn't sit low like a car...huh...it's a crossover SUV you're supposed to sit higher, that's the point of it. And the point of Self-Driving is in city traffic driving isn't fun, at all, and you can't use the "performance" at that time either. Fun when you want to drive and Self-Driving when you don't. Not hard to understand.

Most of the differences in the performance numbers between the MYP and the Ionic N comes down to tires, put a stickier tire on the Model Y and the numbers are going to be much closer. Speaking of numbers, the reviewer failed to mention the Ionic N is over $10,000 more than the MYP, and that’s before your friendly Hyundai dealer tacks on all his BS add-on fees. For the money, the Tesla MYP is a strong competitor and compliments the available trim levels of an SUV that has consistently been one of the number one selling vehicles in the world.

As others have said, what an odd review with some really out there comments. We own a 2026 MYP. The ride in standard is very comfortable. Not harsh or bumpy at all. Unless you are an animal, the body roll is minimal. Also, yes, it’s not a car, you are seating up higher. I’d also consider it a hoot to drive, fast speed aside. It does a good job at masking its weight and it’s playful enough without feeling dangerous. It’s a more mature car. Colors and towing is included, so the price delta between the performance and the premium is less than it seems. The sports seats are very comfortable and that alone would make me upgrade. Also, the range is not as drastic as it seems on paper. I’m averaging 3.7 miles per KW. The MYP is efficient. Do better Edmunds.

Sloppy over bumps? Sound like this thing's been in a wreck. The 30 minutes I beat up a Performance on Atlanta's worst roads, I was seriously impressed. Better suspension than my X3 MSport.

Model Y has a hatchback, the Model 3 does not. This is huge for me. I open it up and my dogs jump in! Lots of fun!

What impresses me the most is the 121mph trap speed of the Y. That is serious top end

Driving a Model 3 or Y performance straight up warps your perspective of affordable performance. But after Model S plaid....they feel like they are standing still.

I bought the Model Y performance instead of the Premium AWD because all the options are included in the price so after choosing red with white interior and a tow hitch the price was only $4500 difference. I was planning on getting the acceleration boost so that gap closes to $2500 difference. The added resale holds up better for the performance models so over time that $2500 difference goes away. Also the seats a a game changer IMO and the exterior accents really set off the look from just being a family SUV to being cool. For me track mode was irrelevant but like you said it's an SUV so I don't know why anyone would expect it to be a track monster. I do like the accuracy of the review and appreciate it after seeing so many Tesla haters posting BS videos.

Very great and thorough review as always. I wonder why you continually compared the model Y Performance to the Hyundai ionic, but when it came to range not a peep about the horrible range of the Hyundai. I think it would've been worth mentioning to get an overall picture of which of the two cars are better suited for some people.
