I still can’t believe these YouTube video series became an actual movie.
How the hell does Kristen not blow out her vocal cords from screaming THIS MUCH during reactions?🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
34:24 one of the few instances where hysterically yelling "TAKE OFF YOUR PANTS!" at a character is appropriate, and not just someone being thirsty 😂
The scariest part of the movie is when the scientist says there are doors opening everywhere almost like that dimension is eating ours up
52:33 my exact reaction watching this scene, lmaoo. "jesus christ, this is horrible... the actress DOES suit red hair, tho"
I like the implication with the powerbox, that whatever it is is leaking into reality.
It's crazy how much room they were able to build with a 10 million dollar budget
Kristen: "It's like when you look in your refrigerator, expecting something new." Me: evil laughter
1:06:31 Yeah, the director of this film was also the one who created the youtube series a few years ago all by himself, he animated it on Blender (a free 3D animation program) when he was like 16. The youtube series itself is based on a single 4 chan post where someone posted a picture of an empty yellow room and captioned it with a small spooky story that if you break out of reality you end up in an endless maze of this space. From that post an online community grew that made their own convoluted lore but Kane created his series separate from that and made his own worldbuilding for the youtube videos and now the movie. The movie is not ''based'' on the youtube series, it's part of it, Kane said he treated it like it was another episode but longer. And the series does have a storyline regarding Async (the science suit guys) but the story is kind of a side thing, the most important part of the backrooms is the eerie otherworldly sence of infinite empty space that makes no sense. 1:07:10 Kane also says that he dislikes the idea of the backrooms being some sort of purgatory, they don't attack someone because that person did something bad or hasn't faced their demons, it's just there as it's own ecosystem, it doesn't matter who you are or what you've done, if you're unlucky to fall there that's it. This movie does have a meaning, it does leave a lot up to interpretation but it's mostly to keep the mystery of what the Backrooms are. If you notice, both characters sort of represent the backrooms themselves, Clark is a failed architect and the backrooms fails to copy architecture properly, Mary is a therapist that doesn't feel like she can actually help people and the backrooms drives people insane. Both are kind of a different side of the same coin in that aspect. And when Captain Clark eats Clark after he's decided he won't change or be a better person, it's sort of a way of showing that he was consumed by his negative side and let himself become a monster.
Ejiofor is SUCH a great actor
