Critique of Ned Fulmer's Post-Scandal Podcast Launch Featuring His Separated Wife

This analysis details why viewing Ned Fulmer’s podcast debut with his estranged wife felt agonizing and self-serving, focusing on his narrative control and provocative questioning.

Short Summary

  • The structure positioned Ned Fulmer as the conversation driver, forcing his ex-partner to recount trauma publicly.
  • Viewers noted Fulmer seemed intent on positioning himself as a victim recovering from his own scandal.
  • The entire production felt like a calculated business move to regain an online audience rather than genuine therapeutic progress.
  • This discussion centers on the controversial decision to turn profound private pain into broadcast content.

This segment critiques the debut episode of Rock Bottom with Ned Fulmer, where the host interviews his wife, Ariel, three years after his public infidelity scandal ended his tenure with the Try Guys. The speaker found the experience brutal, noting Ned’s self-victimizing tone, his heavy use of vocal fry, and his predatory style of questioning Ariel about highly sensitive emotional moments. The ultimate takeaway is the perceived use of family tragedy to launch a new media venture.

Something so sinister and dystopian about making money off of you cheating on your wife after years of profiting off of loving your wife. Insane.

Notice how he says the public scandal caused a lot of pain, NOT the act of him actually cheating and tearing his family apart. God if I rolled my eyes any harder they'd fall out.

People have missed the fact that he was already making this Rock Bottom podcast and it was her idea to come on it. She confirmed this in their joint Rolling Stone article. She wanted to set the record straight and let everyone know that she dumped him that day at the airport when she found out. She knew exactly what she was doing here. He's learned nothing in 3 years, taken no accountability, and she knew exactly how he would come off. The best part is this was recorded in the SPRING, meaning he had months to edit this, and this is the *best* he could make himself look. This man child had ZERO self awareness. Also, in both the podcast and their interviews, he acts like he still thinks there's a chance they can make it work, and she repeatedly shuts it down. Dude lives in complete denial.

At first I was thinking Ariel was crazy to agree to do this podcast, but then I realized that she 100% knew how it would go. She toughed it out because she KNEW that Ned would just further embarrass himself. He played her for a fool once, but now all she has to do is hand him the shovel and watch as he keeps digging himself deeper. Every time he said anything about what he did, he said "you, we, they" etc etc. He never says "I", "me". He's detached himself from his own actions

What absolutely sends me is after Ariel expresses how his cheating made her feel insecure and question what she did wrong, he had the PERFECT slam dunk opportunity to look her in the eye and say “Ariel, you did nothing wrong. My cheating was my own fault. I was selfish, and didn’t appreciate you. You were a good wife, a great mother to our children, and you are an amazing person.” Instead what does he say? “Wow, like… society.” Throw him away. The whole man. Right in the trash.

Calling the affair partner “his producer” and not “his employee” is such a very obvious attempt to cover up the other bad part of her being HIS EMPLOYEE and he was HEAD OF HR

You're getting upset that it's him leading the conversation, but she's just following the tried-and-true tactic: Never interrupt your opponent when they're making a mistake.
