Description

Sam Stein welcomes Axios' Marc Caputo to discuss Florida’s new redistricting map—and the legal storm it’s about to trigger. Governor Ron DeSantis has unveiled a plan that could shift Florida’s congressional delegation from 20–8 to as much as 24–4 in favor of Republicans. But there’s a major problem: Florida’s constitution explicitly bans partisan gerrymandering. So how is this happening? Right now, Soul is offering 30% off your entire order! As a Native Floridian, I’m so over this. It seems the only play for us Independents, who cannot vote in primaries, is to register as a Republican & hope to dilute their top candidates votes.

So our votes don’t count in Florida. We voted to make that illegal and now some piece of shit can fucking get rid of it. And they say Democrats are the ones that steal your elections.

Republicans have been at this for years in FL. Just look at Tampa and St Pete today vs 2004. Same with NC. We’re acting like this is a MAGA problem - this is a republican problem and has been for decades.

I think this is going to backfire. Florida districts are already competitive and now they’ll have even narrower margins.

Unbelievable how messed up American voter processes are to allow politicians to reshape their own maps like this 🤯
