This physical barrier can prevent healthy hair growth. If you’re experiencing hair loss, your hair follicles aren't actually dead; they’re dormant. Even people who are completely bald still have living stem cells within the hair follicles. Scar tissue on the scalp is often caused by inflammation. Inflammation can lead to calcification and reduced blood flow to the scalp, preventing many hair loss remedies from working effectively. You may have heard that DHT, a powerful form of testosterone, causes pattern hair loss. There is usually a deeper root cause behind DHT-related hair loss: insulin resistance. Hair follicles depend on glucose for fuel. If you’re insulin-resistant, hair follicles may not get the energy they need to support healthy hair growth. Simply taking a DHT blocker without addressing insulin resistance may not produce significant results. Improving insulin resistance is a more effective strategy for supporting natural hair regrowth, and a low-carb diet is one of the best ways to combat it. Scalp microneedling has been shown to help break up scar tissue and improve the penetration of topical hair loss remedies. This helps natural remedies, such as topical melatonin, work more effectively. Dr. Eric Berg DC Bio: Dr. Berg, age 61, is a chiropractor who specializes in Healthy Ketosis & Intermittent Fasting. *Key Points (Thank Me Later):* 1. The main reason hair doesn't grow for many people is scar tissue on their scalp, which acts like a wall, keeping sleepy hair stem cells from waking up. This scar tissue forms because of swelling (inflammation) and bad blood flow. 2. A big secret behind hair loss is something called insulin resistance. This means your body has trouble using sugar, which hurts hair follicles by blocking blood flow and causing more swelling and scar tissue. 3. To help your hair, first, fix insulin resistance. Eat a low-carb diet (like keto) and try eating only during certain hours (intermittent fasting). This helps wake up dormant hair cells and improves your body's sugar use. 4. To break down scalp scar tissue, use a tool called microneedling. It makes tiny holes, helping your scalp heal with new, healthy tissue. Do this every 2-4 weeks, using a depth of 1-1.5mm. 5. After microneedling, wait a day or two, then apply helpful liquids to your scalp at night. Good choices include topical melatonin, rosemary oil, or saw palmetto to encourage hair growth. 6. Taking pumpkin seed oil by mouth (400mg daily) can also help hair grow thicker. Manage stress with walks and sleep, as stress makes insulin resistance worse and can lead to hair loss.

My husband’s a diabetic and had a stroke 6 years ago (he was 69 at the time). Within 3 months his thick hair was completely grey/white and so thin I could see his scalp. He cleaned up his diet, eating more grass fed meat, eggs, veggies and occasional fruits; two smaller meals a day (nothing after 5:00) and lost 70 lbs. His hair has darkened up a lot (although his goatee is still snow white), and has gotten thicker much to his delight, but not like it used to be. He’s unable to walk long distances due to his balance issues but the progress and changes he’s achieved is a miracle and a blessing from God.

I've been on a low carb diet for like 30 years. That part definitely doesn't work.

Muscle tightening around the scalp pulls the skin tighter and stops blood flow and thins the skin. Scalp massage really helps.

I’ve been doing deep muscle massages on my hair, micro needling, and using rosemary oil and 2 months later I have tiny hairs coming out of my scalp. It does take patience.
