Description

Mona speaks with David Brooks (author, contributor to PBS NewsHour and opinion columnist for The New York Times) about why so many Americans feel unseen, how loneliness and moral drift are reshaping society, and what we lose when human connection is replaced by screens, algorithms, and artificial companionship. Got to love watching old conservatives say you're crazy because they created a world you can't trust. They gave power to corporations and voted to cut back on education and other help to give the powerful more money. Their generation created this mess. The Young generation isn't crazy because they see what you've done.

Sorry. Not sure whatever happened to David Brooks but I''m done with him. He is insufficient to the times we live in.

There is a difference between being open and trying to see the good in people and allowing people to mistreat you because you keep gaslighting yourself that they are different than what they are. Look around. We are surrounded by people who signed off on visible, undeniable intolerance, hate, and pettiness because they were worried about the price of eggs. Once society starts showing compassion and kindness, then I will trust. Otherwise I choose safety and caution, because I have eyes and a functioning brain.

I would agree that most people are selfish but I never thought most people are out to get me.

Before Jim Crow, now Jim Crow. Loneliness has nothing to do with this. But it is human to think that way

Stephen Miller - I live in the real world. Those are the exact words spoken to me by a salesperson at local car dealership 30 years ago (I bought a new vehicle elsewhere). For me, the phrase will always be connected to an unsuccessful sales pitch.

This is what I practiced for 45 years as a psych nurse and substance use counselor. I created a safe, nonjudgmental space for people. I found that simply listening to people was very healing. People are starved to be heard and seen.
