Never Before Seen Double Rings 2 Million Light Years Across. What Made This?
Investigating the Double Ring Anomaly in Odd Radio Circles (ORCs)
Discover the latest astronomical puzzle: A newly found double-ring structure challenges existing theories explaining the mysterious Odd Radio Circles.
Short Summary
- Scientists are refining models—moving beyond simple starburst explanations—following the discovery of a complex double-ring ORC (G0356-4216) located 6.3 billion light-years away.
- Evidence points strongly toward energetic electron decay within ordered magnetic fields, potentially stemming from relic activity of a central supermassive black hole.
- Solving the ORC rarity mystery is key to unlocking new insights into galactic evolution and the impact of central black holes. This discussion covers the properties of previously studied ORCs, details the new double-ring observation, and outlines the competing hypotheses regarding their origins. This knowledge helps frame future deep-space observations.

Wonderful as always Anton. Thank you. 🤟🙂
That green nebula you were showing is the Skull nebula. It is a planetary nebula, a sun like star that has reached its red giant phase and has thrown off its outer gas layers. I photographed this nebula myself in visible light.
So cool! Thank you, Mr. Petrov!
My alll time favorite science communicator. What a nice voice and a sweet guy! love from the USA!
Thank you for reporting real science. I honestly do appreciate it. Too meny people are becoming political influencers.
