Reaction to Avatar: The Last Airbender Season 3 Episodes 7-9: Scams, Bloodbending, and Invasion Prep.
Witness the Team Avatar navigate ethical boundaries through scams and confront a horrifying new power, Bloodbending, before Aang faces unprecedented pre-invasion anxiety.
Short Summary
- Observe Toph mastering deception to fund the group, leading to a confrontation over responsibility.
- Detail the shocking introduction of Bloodbending and Katara's mastery of this dark technique against an old foe.
- Experience Aang's paralyzing stress and nightmares as the invasion date approaches, forcing Zuko and Katara to exert protective control.
This segment covers three critical episodes where character dynamics are severely tested: Toph challenges Katara's seriousness, Katara must choose how to wield the destructive power of Bloodbending against Hama, and Aang nears a breaking point from the pressure of defeating Fire Lord Ozai. The team’s combined maturity, or lack thereof, is continuously on display leading into the final conflict.

So I don't if you remember Kristen, but the ship Hama froze with the other waterbenders was the same ship Aang and Katara explored in the very first episode
The Puppet Master episode came out on Halloween day during the airing time of the show
In the fight versus Hama, it's not just the fact that Katara is younger, but that she's picked up different things from different bending styles. What she uses against Hama for defense and knocking her over at 29:28 was taken from the earth bending styles. She stood her ground and became unmovable where Hama only took from the southern water tribe. This is proving more about Iroh's teaching to Zuko about the lightning redirection, learning from other sources makes one stronger where Hama's technique had gotten stale and predictable by anyone who knows the style.
I'm always excited to see Kristen Sasuke Pino.
What makes Bloodbending particularly frightening is its more gruesome potential of application given what a waterbender can do outside of a human body. We're talking dessication, anatomical freezing, and with enough force applied, evisceration and dismemberment. Being a kids show they kept it as tame as possible (though lore wise the freezing part was actually done), but there were more reasons than just human puppetry to outlaw bloodbending in its entirety.
The puppetmaster episode finally! One of my favorite episodes!!
Hama is the darkest episode in the entire ATLA.
real fans still call him sparky sparky boom man
The moment @29:21 is favorite of mine. It shows something that Iroh says back in season two about learning lighting re-direction while studying water benders. Each bending style can improve and evolve by learning from the others, even if you cannot control the element. In the first few moves between Hama and Katarra, they both fight like water benders, redirecting the flow of water at each other. Then at this moment, Katarra shifts tactics, plants her feet and meets the attack head on like an earth bender would.
She made it too the blood bending episode probably one of the darkest episodes and one the best episodes out of the Avatar series
