Plant Toxins, Addiction, and Performance in the Carnivore Diet

Discover why eliminating plant defense chemicals drastically improved athletic performance and reduced inflammation, leading to a superior metabolic state compared to conventional dietary advice.

Short Summary

  • Plants contain thousands of natural defense chemicals (carcinogens) that cause inflammation and hinder healing.
  • Transitioning to an animal-based (carnivore) diet eliminated chronic pain and amplified athletic recovery during rugby season.
  • Fructose, found in fruit and honey, is a highly addictive substance that drives metabolic disease and relapse risk.
  • Carbohydrates are not essential, as evidenced by historical carnivorous populations surviving and thriving in harsh climates.
  • Strict adherence, avoiding "cheat days," is crucial for breaking addiction cycles rooted in highly palatable processed foods.

This discussion explores the speaker's transition from a standard diet to carnivore nutrition, detailing the physiological benefits observed in high-level athletic performance and recovery due to reduced inflammation. It strongly cautions against the inclusion of sugar, fruit, and processed foods by framing them as addictive substances that sabotage metabolic health gains.

i have been working on being a carnivore for 4 years fighting sugar the whole time. i have now been sugar free for 4 weeks,so so hard to kick that addiction. i have increased the amount of beef and fat during this last month and thinking this is what my body needed to stop the cravings for sugar.

I have been a sugar addict most of my 78 years. Have tried most diets but end up returning to my sugar habit, even on keto. After I had an A1C of 6 I decided to go carnivore. Wow! What a difference! I have been on it for only 6 or7 weeks, and have no sugar cravings, better energy, decreased joint pain, much better digestion, but have sugar dreams 😂. Fighting with people trying to trick or tempt me into eating sugary treats. Just before a cancer surgery I dreamed I fought with the hospital staff for trying to give me IV sugar water! 😅. I'm determined to stay with carnivore for the rest of the days the Lord gives me!

I can vouch for the adage that having no sugar but having some honey and fruit can and will still contribute to becoming diabetic as that's exactly what happened to my late father. He lived as they preached. We actually didn't have any suagr or salt in the house and made skim milk powdered milk up. It was gross. We ate home made whole oats woth honey and milk for breakfast and a cheese sandwich and fruit for lunch and he had English breakfast tea with a tsp of honey a few times a day and night. Veggie soup then steamed veggies and meat like.lamb chops or baked chicken drumsticks or fish for dinner and yoghurt and fruit and muesli for dessert. Sometimes be hungry again and make toast for supper. By 55 he was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes and 25years later died from heart and kidney damage from diabetes. He did what they told him to the letter including taking their drugs and he was always behind the game woth his health and we would never understand why until now after hearing about and implementing the carnivore diet. Within the first 3 months, I lost 15kg and blood sugars always within a healthy range. If I was to continue on with our even more fat and animal.restricted vegetarian diet then I have no doubt in my mind that the fatty liver doc found with me at 40 would be the end of me. Cause nobody told us to stay away from fructose actually we were being encouraged to juice our fruits and veggies and drink them daily and we did. So praise God for the honest and brave and intelligent doctors such as Dr. Anthony here speaking up and clueing us all into what a real healthy diet consists of.

I love that analogy as a person who was addicted to alcohol, sugar is the same thing. Of course alcohol is at higher level but it’s freaking close. People that come off alcohol tend to gravitate to sugar as a replacement.

Dr chaffee! On energy drinks - i had a single energy drink, sugar free, and my blood glucose was 119 6 hours later. Pure carnivore but i had that ONE. Took a week to get it back to normal. I think thats what the stimulants combined with the fake sugars do!

The inflammation reduction is still the one thing that blows my mind. Old powerlifting niggles just vanished but return when I go back to what you'd consider a bodybuilding bulk diet. I've gone back to carnivore after gaining 15kg on a bulk but I've felt terrible. I'll never come off carnivore again

8:00 well said. if you do it once, you'll do it twice, then it becomes once a month, then once a week and then once a day and then 2-3 times a day. carbohydrates are addictive and we have to deal with them like we do with any other intoxicating substances
