It's too late for any meaningful negotiations. Unconditional surrender is the only practical solution for Ukraine at this point. Hitler's Germany also refused to admit defeat until Hitler killed himself, then Keitel signed unconditional surrender. Post war settlement is Russia's business.

The West employs similar techniques when dealing with Russia, Iran, and Gaza: they often request a temporary ceasefire to regroup and rearm. This is why Russia is reluctant to agree to such terms without a permanent solution.

Unstoppable nato expansions, aggressiveness in Georgia, subversive war in Chechnya was part of it too. Regime change and dismantling russia were objetives.

The Russians have never agreed to Ukraine being anchored in the west. They have always said Ukraine needs to be Neutral.
