The truth is NPC's aren't a conservative or liberal problem, they are a humanity problem. Some large percentage of people in the country (I'd guess between 50-70%) have essentially outsourced their critical thinking processes to whatever news station or YouTube channel they follow to stay up to date on politics. They speak mostly in slogans and if you watch the latest episode of whatever podcast they listen to you can literally predict their talking points the next time you talk to them.
Everyone is an NPC, except for me of course!
It has been so insane, as a chronically online person, to see 4chan memes and imageboard culture go mainstream to the point guys in suits on blank soundstages are talking about soyjacks and schizoposters. I 100% understand how Cassandra felt & why she's commonly depicted tearing her hair out.
The irony in people who bury themselves in social media and internet culture, while ignoring the real world, believe everyone else is an NPC is frucking epic!
This shit is all too depressing. I find myself having a hard time getting through videos like this

The Scalia speech at the end was actually really good, I never thought I would be found agreeing with him on what it means to be American
When I spoke to a Principal Officer of the US Commercial Service at the US Consulate in Cape Town, South Africa, he said that the nature of US government not moving quickly when it came to massive policy change was a benefit to their departments. The needs and resources of other countries would make it extremely difficult to do their jobs and support adjustments to change. I remember asking them if there were things they did to prepare for changing administrations and they said, largely, no, but that was a good thing since the nature of their work is to focus on trade promotion to benefit the US overall. I've though about that a lot since this new administration has treated our government, its agencies, and its workers like easily expendable pawns.
I work for a WISP and my company has received millions to build towers to provide internet to rural communities. In bfe we can get people around 100mbps-1000mbps depending on the equipment.
All that the "NPC" insult comes down to is "a person who lacks critical thinking" which is kind of a dumb insult because it removes the nuance and specificity of it and can be used against anyone who doesn't agree with you.
