In this episode of Legal AF, Ray Brescia interviews Rudina Hajdari, a distinguished champion of global democratic leadership and a central figure in Albanian politics. They discuss the “Flamingo Revolution” that is occurring in that country right now, where over 100,000 Albanians have taken to the streets to protest the corrupt government of Prime Minister Edi Rama. These protests were set off by the announced plans of Jared Kushner and Ivanka Trump to build a luxury resort in an environmentally sensitive area in Albania. Hajdari is currently the Acting Program Director of the International Democracy Fellowship at the Institute for Global Affairs (IGA), where she works to equip rising international political leaders with the tools and networks necessary to advance democracy in their home countries. She also served as a member of the Albanian parliament, has advised the U.S. House Foreign Affairs Committee on Balkan affairs, is a term member of the Council on Foreign Relations, and is a 2025 Vital Voices global fellow. In addition, her dedication to democracy is deeply personal, as her father, Azem Hajdari, a prominent Albanian pro-democracy figure, co-founder of the Democratic Party, and leader of the student movement that helped end the communist regime in Albania in 1990, was the victim of a political assassination in 1998.
