Some references and points for those are interested in this arena of study. Basal cognition - the field of study that extends cognition all the way down to microbes. Terrence Deacon is a pioneer in the field of biosemiotics and has outlined some of its key points here. Damasio’s somatic marker hypothesis is closely related to what Griffiths discusses here. Also, R.I.P. Helen, who passed away a couple of days ago.
anger doesn’t necessarily need to add fitness. any random feature can be propagated if the overall fitness remains high enough similarly to losing some trait that offered an advantage, imo.
Something I have discovered about laughing is that we only laugh when being tickled if we like the person doing the tickling. It is also difficult to laugh at a joke told by someone you already don't like. So perhaps laughing is a sign of submission and acceptance.
Pretty cool to see Robert at the Frederik Meijer Gardens and sculpture park in Grand Rapids, MI. The neuron sculpture is quite the sight to see in person.
This was so interesting. Thank you!
I asked my cognitive processes to explain themselves, but they got too emotional and as a result the explanations were really blurred.......
Great as always Robert. I have been watching you videos ever since they appeared on YouTube !
I totally agree with Peter's graduated consciousness view.
Magnificent documentary! A must see!!!
rachel's portion was fire, so concise and clear - learned so much
