Michael Knowles REACTS To "The Fate Of Ophelia" By Taylor Swift

It’s so refreshing to hear legitimate well thought out critique of Taylor’s work instead of just mindlessly bashing her because you don’t like her.

"Guys I've read hamlet" Proceeds to casually quote hamlet in his video. Yeah, we see that subtle flex. That's one way we can tell you aren't Rachel Maddow, because I'd be willing to bet she couldn't quote Hamlet off the top of her head.

Shes saying she was turning mad, like ophelia because of the heartbreak of her previous relationship, but travis saved her from that fate

I love the way he compliments Taylor and says her song is very literate haha!

Travis "saved" her from dying of heartbreak and madness. That's her "fate of Ophelia."

Pledging allegence to "Me, myself and I" is common after horrible relationships. Then someone who is actually right for you comes along sometimes and BAM no Ophelia.

If I can offer some context you might be missing: She was in a very short but evidently intense relationship with someone right after her 6-year relationship ended in the spring of 2023, and when that person turned around and ghosted her (as she puts it in a few songs between then and now) she felt cast aside the way Ophelia did. That person was also a very troubled Hamlet-like figure. She pledged herself to “me, myself, and I” resigning herself to a fate of being alone, and if you think about it suicide sort of is that, it’s a decision that nothing but your pain matters and maybe you might as well just drown. It’s sort of like if another man had come to Ophelia right after Hamlet tossed her aside and showed her that she was lovable and prevented her from her death, that’s what Taylor is equating her life to.

Taylor has had a trajectory in her romantic life I feel many women can relate to. When you're a teenager, you want that prince charming young love, but life smacks you with disappointment and disillusionment. You harden to protect your heart and say things like "I dont need a man" instead of feeling vulnerable or worrying you're unlovable. I think Taylor is a very earnest and honest writer who truly didn't want to lose that vulnerable yearning, so its beautiful to see her dreams of love come true and to be honest enough to say "this man SAVED ME" when its not cool to admit that as a woman anymore. She truly has some beautiful "full circle moment" lyrics about Travis bringing back those feelings of innocent young love into her life and I'm genuinely happy for her. The " me, myself, and I" was she was giving up on love, going to just take care of herself. Not narcissistic just protecting her broken heart. But, true love has come along.

Not a Taylor swift fan by any means but the fact she can write a hook melody like this 12 albums into her career is amazing
