Supreme Court SCREWED as Nation DEMANDS REFORM NOW!!!

In this episode of Legal AF, host Ray Brescia speaks with legal scholar Paul A. Gowder, the Frederic P. Vose Professor of Law at Northwestern Pritzker School of Law, about the Supreme Court’s recent decision in Trump v. Barbara, where the Court narrowly ruled that the plain language of the 14th Amendment that establishes birthright citizenship means what it says. Professor Gowder teaches constitutional law and is the author of The Rule of Law in the Real World and The Rule of Law in the United States: An Unfinished Project of Black Liberation. Brescia and Gowder discuss the Court’s 5-4 majority opinion and the reasoning behind it as well as the dissenting and concurring opinions in the case. They also explore whether the shockingly narrow, 5-4 outcome of this ruling, when coupled with the Court’s recent lurch in the direction of an expansive view of executive authority in case after case, means that the nation is in desperate need of reform of the Supreme Court in order to restore the robust checks and balances between the three branches of the federal government that the Framers intended to create when drafting the U.S. Constitution.
