When I was trying to get into the Navy as nuclear propulsion engineer, I got to take a tour of one of our naval bases. When we were getting on the Uss Carney the Lieutenant, pointed out a new cruiser if I remember correctly. He said that it was one of 2 ships the military contracted out to Northrop Grumman, and some other company. The government couldn’t decide which one they wanted so they had both built and which ever one was better they would award the contract. These ships cost many millions of dollars each. It’s grease palming. You’re going to have a one off ship that you really don’t need because you have a fleet of the other, and parts will come at a premium because there is only one of them. It’s ridiculous.

We are spending 2 trillion more per year than we have. Cutting will only get us so far. Balancing the budget has to be done consistently for decades.
