Finland Confronts Russian Shadow Fleet After Critical Baltic Cable Sabotage

Learn how Finnish authorities rapidly seized a Russian-linked tanker for dragging its anchor across vital undersea cables, triggering a major NATO security escalation in the Baltic Sea.

Short Summary

  • Investigators confirmed the tanker dragged its anchor nearly 100km, severing multiple energy and communication lines costing $70 million.
  • The event spurred NATO to launch Operation Baltic Sentry to actively deter further hybrid attacks targeting critical infrastructure. This incident highlights escalating Russian "hybrid attacks" used to probe NATO defenses near Finland, despite official declarations of peace.

The cool thing about 60 Minutes is that you don't know if it's filmed in the 90's or present day.

That was NOT an accident! That was done deliberately.

No way dragging an anchor 100km is 'an accident.' Follow the money trail. I bet those Execs have received substantial deposits lately.

Captain, we're quarter speed at full throttle far the last 2 hours, and we're almost out of fuel. What could possibly be wrong?

The anker is not in the middle of the boat so dragging means pulling from one side and that requires adjustment in stearing which for 100% makes it clear that you are dragging.

I beleieve that the Cables are clearly marked. They are too important to be unmarked.

Dude why are we using so much fuel and throttle and are still so slow? Dunno, captain, must be bad luck! Should we check the anchor ⚓? No, who would leave the anchor down fir hours without noticing....😅
