Josh Pate Analyzes Final CFP Rankings: Miami's Entry, Alabama's Protection, and G5 Controversy

Discover why the final College Football Playoff selection process showcased committee favoritism toward established conferences, even when the messaging appeared illogical. Learn why independent Notre Dame finally paid a structural price for its status.

Short Summary

  • The ACC "doomsday scenario" materialized, resulting in Miami securing a spot over Notre Dame at the last minute.
  • Alabama retained its position despite losing the SEC Championship, illustrating the financial power dictating league placement.
  • The inclusion of two Group of Five (G5) teams is called an "utter disgrace" while a contender like Notre Dame sits home.
  • The committee exhibited clear knee-jerk reactions and applied metrics inconsistently throughout the final weeks.

Speaker Josh Pate breaks down the four key controversies arising from the final College Football Playoff bracket announcement. As an Oregon fan, we got way more rewarded for going 11-1 this year than we did for going 13-0 last year. This is a much better outlook for us

I don't disagree with the idea a conference championship loss cannot move a team down. I do have an issue with that rule not applying to BYU. It seems to me this whole process was a set of rules that applied to every team except BYU. Strength of record was important... Except for BYU. Wins against ranked teams was important... Except for BYU. As a BYU fan, I am left scratching my head as to how BYU can ever get into the playoffs unless they go undefeated even in the championship game. I am losing my desire to watch college football.

so Ohio state drops a spot, BYU drops....Bama gets BOAT RACED and didn't even drop a spot. Make it make sense.

They need to return to the BCS formula instead of a committee.. and include some objective computer model calculation based on a points system

Bama once won a title by jumping a team that lost confrence championship while sitting at home. Confrence championship used to be the final bonus data point to determine how good teams were good or bad. There is no logical reasoning that needed to change.

It's funny that two years ago UGA was undefeated, defending back to back time national champions and got left out of the playoffs because they lost the SEC championship to bama by 3 points. Dropped from #1 to #6. It sucks the rules of the CFP change on a whim.

Hahaha, they admitted BYU dropped for losing big in a conference championship game, BUT Bama gets a mulligan for getting boat raced in their conference championship game. 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
