If I had to bet, Russians are pretty good at chess
Guys, the instigator cannot be a mediator.
What negotiations? The Russian position is clear (the West must back off), the collective west's goal is also clear (Russia must surrender). There is no middle ground, ergo, there is nothing to discuss.

Alex, when you are talking of the media "turning on Russia", it would be wise to indicate the clear distinction between Western media (NATO-jurisdictions) and media in the rest of the world, as in the rest of the world Russia certainly is not judged as you describe, to the contrary
The point of playing along with the charade, is to either to show trump who he has working for him and him dealing with the problem if he's not part of it, or prove to the world that all US presidents are part of the theater
Putin shouldn't worry about US media. Americans don't 😏
On the way this will actually be settled is on the battlefield. The Americans will never agree to anything that will even remotely settle the issue
The US wanted negotiations in the Vatican or Geneva to dictate its agenda and that is why Russia rightly refused.
