One of the most unique horror films I've ever seen. Producers in Hollywood have kept asking the filmmakers, "When are you going to write a sequel?" And they keep responding, "Have you seen the movie?"
I also love how they are all introduced in the opening truly shows that they are not their character tropes at all. The virgin is talking about how she slept with her professor, the scholar catches the book thrown out the window, the athlete gives book recommendations etc. then at that uncomfortable scene at the cabin when they're partying they've all reverted completely into their tropes except the fool.
The fact that this movie is not only a narrative, but also an allegory and satire but also retoactively could explain every other U.S. American movie is another reason this is such not just a top-notch horror film, but movie overall.
"whatever he's been smoking had made immune to our drugs" score one for the Fool!
The amount of easter eggs and horror movie clichés referenced in this film are a true horror fan's delight.
Great reference early on; in the opening scene when they're talking about "the glitch in 1998" that was the fault of the chem department, that refers to the movie "The Faculty."
This film also explains why people always drop their weapons in horror movies! The control room electrified it so they automatically drop it!
Fun Fact: Joss Wedon wanted this movie to be tied into ALL slasher movies. This is meant to be a "behind the curtain" to every other horror movie where 5+ young teens get killed by a killer (Jason, Freddy, Micheal, etc). So behind the scenes in all other horror movies is cameras we didn't know about. Joss also wanted to include the actual Jason, Micheal, Pinhead, Chucky, Freddy, Candyman, Leatherface, etc. But due to those IP's being owned by so many different studios it would have been virtually impossible to come to an agreement. So they had to create their own "killers" some based on those familiar killers we know from other movies and some from folklore and some from stories with others being completely original.
Tara immediately recognizing Sigourney Weaver's voice has to be one of the GOATed moments of these reactions. That was AMAZING!
