MAN OF STEEL (2013) MOVIE REACTION!! BEAUTIFUL MESS OR UNDERRATED MASTERPIECE?! Full Commentary
Henry Cavill & Zack Snyder’s Superman: Man of Steel Reaction and Analysis
Discover why Man of Steel functions powerfully as an "Elseworlds" story while simultaneously failing to connect emotionally as a core Superman narrative for some viewers. Gain insight into the film’s celebrated visual ambition versus its character execution challenges across the decade it dominated the conversation.
Short Summary
- The film successfully executes a visually ambitious, operatic sci-fi origin story, highlighted by stunning Kryptonian world-building and action choreography.
- Critics debate whether the grounded, isolated portrayal of Clark Kent sacrifices the inherent hope and humanity audiences expect from the character.
- Key moments, like Jor-El's role and Superman's initial flight, are praised for their scale, though some emotional beats felt underdeveloped or rushed.
- Greg and Coy analyze the film’s thematic depth, discussing its heavy Christ allegory and its polarizing impact on the character’s public perception over the last decade. This commentary details a scene-by-scene reaction to Man of Steel (2013), Zack Snyder’s DCEU launching film. The hosts explore the disconnect between the film as a technical achievement and its effect on the iconic character, offering a balanced critique of its aesthetics, thematic weight, and characterization choices prior to James Gunn's reboot.

The scout ship was ancient Kryptonians exploring the galaxy that crashed there 18,000 years ago. Unrelated to Clark's ship and Clark's arrival
Michael Shannon really is THE MVP of this movie. The more I rewatch it, the more I appreciate him. He's a beast.
I will always have a soft spot for this movie. Me and my grandpa set up the windmill at the farm, the farm scenes were shot 45 min from where i live.
Every time I watch clips from this Superman it reminds how perfect the music is. The quality of this movie was amazing back then and still
Superman has literally killed over a dozen times in the comics. the Christopher Reeve version of Superman kills General Zod in Superman II. This Superman killing Zod is fine. It bothers me when people criticize Henry Cavill superman for killing. Superman will kill. He doesnt like to do it, but he has, and will in extreme situations.
Jesus wasn't a fisherman. He was a carpenter
If you pay attention, during the bar scene, the TV show mentioned a strange discovery in the north etc. That’s why he hiked up there
23:20 Saying how does Superman feel a can thrown at him is like saying how does he feel Louis Lane grab his arm. He can feel the can hit him, it just obviously doesn’t hurt him

A couple of things to correct, it does make sense that Zodd would be able to adapt to Earth quickly because he was breed to be a military leader that can adapt to different scenarios. Secondly the black hole explosion was only sucking in Kryptonian things/people, thats why Clarks skin was glowing and had a pulling effect and Louis did not.
