Google’s phones have never been about the best hardware, but for $1800 this one needs to be
You gotta give it to Samsung for taking the risk and start the production of folding phones early when there wasn't more advanced technology at the time. They made a good progress overtime and they are making good foldables on the smartphone market right now.
4 hours of battery life is an instant pass from me but I’m excited to see where the foldable market goes in the next year or two
The bezels surprisingly don't annoy me as much as I thought they would, they remind me of the bezels of a regular tablet which actually makes perfect sense for a phone that unfolds to be a tablet-sized device.
bet i can get it to fold flat....
Despite the "weirdness", I'm actually really impressed with how much you like it for a first gen device. Sounds promising for the future, even if it's not a device for me.
My only complain and hold-back about the Pixel Fold is the lack of stylus support. A passport formfactor like this would've been perfect to use a stylus on for making art or creating notes. Other than that it's a great first gen product and i can't wait to see how the second gen will be like
I really like the formfactor of pixel fold when it's closed. Google should just make a phone of this size and call it a Pixel mini or something like that.
For those thinking of getting one in late 2025 ____ Picked up a lightly used one locally for $300 USD 2 weeks ago. It's been a very interesting phone. For reference in the past 2 years I've been using a iPhone 15PM and Samsung Galaxy 24. I really like Samsung OneUI and that's just a personal preference. But i have to say, im pleasantly surprised at how funky this 1st gen Pixel fold is. The quality of the physical hardware is A+ top shelf premium. I was never a buyer at 1800 or even $1k. Unless there is a rebate or some mark down i don't see the need to spend more than $900 on a phone. But at $300 i was tempted to see what it would be like to have my first foldable and a Pixel. Complaints: 3-1/2 hours of screen on time puts me at 30% remaining. The camera / picture quality has more noise than I'm used to. The bottom speaker does all the work and the volume rocker gets bumped a lot. Third party appts still doesn't really take advantage of the main display. Some apps on the front display don't always respond appropriately to user inputs. Worry in the back of mind of dropping it or the inside screen stops working. Positives: The Tensor G2 actually has held up very well. The UI is very snappy and responsive. The finger print sensor is very reliable and well placed. The bezel on the inside screen is really helpful for allowing you to hold the phone or pass it to someone to share content. The build quality is outstanding. It really feels like a halo product. If anything a slightly thicker rear panel for a larger battery and flatter buttons would have been nice. Its a heavy phone, but because the quality is so good and the folding panels sit flush, the grip is solid. In the end i think there is still a lot i need to explore with the device. At under $500USD i think its great value for something truly different and interesting. But.... and it a big BUT, its hard to say if there truly is any more advantage to a foldable than having a large phone like a Samsung Ultra. I'm leaning so far to saying a Ultra would be a better allrounder but it does take up a lot of pocket space.
IMO, it had the best aspect ratio for most potential users, especially for watching videos.
