This movie was one of the best “hidden gems” in cinema. It’s both a classic action flick, and subverts expectations at the same time. Easily one of Ben Afleck’s best movies.
As an Autistic person, who spent 4 years (as a kid) living in a facility with other kids on the spectrum. I consider this to be a very positive portray of Autistic people. Yes, it's exaggerated, but so are movies like "Die Hard" or "James Bond". Neurotypical people like to daydream about being "Badass", and we do too.
Fun fact, the filmed a sequel to this! Ben Affleck & Jon Bernthal will both be back!
The representation of the autism community in this movie, especially towards the end, is absolutely beautiful. Especially with Justine as Wollf’s partner. Also I love how even though he never hints at it to anyone else in the movie, Christian is a true nerd and fanboy. Not only does he have Luke’s first lightsaber from A New Hope, he also has a copy of Action Comics #1, which was the comic that introduced the world to Superman. One of those copies sold at an auction for 1 million dollars!
I smile a little every time someone discovers this masterpiece
This movie is slept on and so is Ben at times. People forget how good of an actor he is sometimes.
“You’re different. Sooner or later different scares people”. Such a powerful scene. For more reasons that I care to share, it move me to tears every time. I love this movie and can’t wait for the sequel.
27:45 Speaking as someone on the spectrum, this scene is one of my favorites. Notice how he becomes much more animated, emotional, and uses more eye contact. He is talking about something within his narrow set of interests, with someone who shares that interest. This aspect of the autistic spectrum, having narrow and intense interests, is well-represented. Also, I appreciate his intense emotional reaction when a task is unfinished or his system is disrupted. Overall, this is one of the better movies for autism.
“Hello Braxton.” Is delivered so perfectly 😅 This entire movie is perfection. It’s one of my favorites.
