As as a social worker there are some clear red flags story 2: 1. Youngest getting into fights, usually highlight emotional issues, and can be a reflection of life at home re physical abuse. 2. Physical abusers of children tend to not 'love' those children in the traditional sense. They regularly blame the child, and claim the child had something wrong from birth. 3. Refusal to spend 1 on 1 time with a step parent is a huge flag, usually the child is safeguarding themselves from behaviours they've seen the parent do together, in this case maybe physical abuse. 4. When a parent says 'things got hazy' or similar statements, these are seen as guilt ridden comments, attempting to blame the victim in part to what happened. 5. Most importantly, when an older sibling over reacts in protection of a younger sibling, that's a huge red flag to us, that's very normally an emotional response to fear for their sibling. This is abuse, 100%

I'm honestly glad the second story is in AmITheDevil because similar BS happened to me with my "mother". She always showed extreme preferential treatment to my younger sister and she kicked me out at 17 BECAUSE "my sister didn't like living with me". There was a point where my 15 year old sister had a bedroom + my old bedroom as an office, while I had to sleep in the living room. In a house that had 5 bedrooms and only 4 people in it. When you hate your kids, they know it.
