Dolph Lundgren is Gunner. He fought Rocky in "Rocky IV" (1985) as the Russian Ivan Drago.
Sylvester specifically created this series of movies to get all the action heroes from the last three decades together. He intentionally went for the somewhat campy, over the top action movie theme. So it was a winner. Us guys knew what we were getting into with a movie like this, so we love it for what it is. He got more action heroes to join the franchise with the other Expendables movies as well, following the success of this one.

Been following the Popcorn in Bed channel since the pandemic. Never would have believed that Cassie would be watching this.
Expendables was like crowd service to all the people that grew up in the era of high-action, high carnage, combat movies (eg. Rambo, Commando, Diehard, Transporter, Kung Fu movies, etc, etc). No finesse or dramatic cinema ... it's just over-the-top, full-on action. LOVE IT. Go on, Cassie .... do the other Expendables. Lol.
Despite the seemingly endless death, the total kill count for this one is only approximately 214-221 throughout the film.
