This would explain why "Squid Games" originated in South Korea.
North Korea = Animal Farm South Korea = Metropolis
The entire korean peninsula is in dystopian state but with different flavor in the north and south
It's wild. 10 families controlling everything. I have a feeling that's a common theme for many countries.
We are not outnumbered. We're out-organized.
Its impressive how they managed to put two different dystopias into one peninsula... One is Orwel's 1984 the other is cyberpunk....
At my university there were a lot of Korean international students. I became good friends with one of them who was pursuing a career with the Korean navy and was on a scholarship to study in the US. He told me people killed themselves if they did not get into Samsung or any of these other companies. The race is super intense so he decided to pursue a career with the navy as an engineer. He makes a decent amount, lives in an hour away from Busan, and lives pretty decently. I could never imagine living in that kind of society tbh.
Went to college with international students from rich Korean families. Yep. I also noticed how they look down on poor people.
To anybody who is surprised, there is a reason why this stuff is covered in 90% of korean films and shows
