28 Weeks Later (2007) Review and Reaction Analysis

Analyze how 28 Weeks Later escalates the apocalyptic tension established in the first film, focusing on the failure of reconstructed society and the terrifying emergence of intelligent rage.

Short Summary

  • Reconstruction efforts in London collapse violently when a survivor unknowingly breaches the quarantine zone, proving safety is temporary.
  • The film explores deeper facets of the rage virus, including potential mutation evidenced by the actions of a newly infected character.
  • Viewers witness the grim military response, realizing that containing the outbreak involves total, indiscriminate incineration, confirming the worst fears about total failure.
  • Survivors Andy and Tammy escape London via rescue boat, only for the virus to immediately spread to France, setting up future conflict.

The discussion centers on the sequel's shift from pure survival horror to examining global response failures under strict military control. Reviewers praise the high-action sequences, visceral gore, and the compelling, villainous turn of Robert Carlyle’s infected character. The segment concludes by questioning the sustainability of the fragile peace outside the initial disaster zone.

My only "stupid actions" complaint about this film is that the military didn't have a guard duty at the door to Mom's quarantine, nor was there medical staff monitoring her round-the-clock... especially right after pointing out she is absolutely _vital_ to a cure.

If Don had stayed to help he wouldve died along side everyone else. Don did what 99.9% of people would do in that scenario. Almost impossible to overcome the survival instinct

Lmfao I love how people give the dad so much crap when they would have done the same in the situation. He killed some and lost his crowbar, then literally had her and was pulling her to safety, but she just had to say no and pull away to go for the random child that brought all the infected in the first place. What are you gonna do with no weapons? Fight dozens of raged out infected with your fists xD?

I'm convinced. Children in the apocalypse are there to get you killed. 😂

I'm surprised there's backlash about how Don (Robert Carlyle) left his wife and the kid to make a run for it. The little boy was just in the wrong place in the house; not to mention, the boy also led the zombies to their safehouse. Don tried to get his wife to come with him, but she ran across the room for the kid. She put herself in danger. Don would have died too if he had tried to help. It was a lose/lose situation. Personally, I think his reaction is very realistic.

The sad thing about horror movies, is that they do not exist unless there are stupid characters. Like you never see a horror movie where all the people in it are competent and think twice before making a bad decision. Instead its like... "oh, a dark and scary noise, I should go investigate it alone" "oh, we're in a post-apocalyptic/emergency situation, I better go to the one location where I am not supposed to be" "oh, I need to get to some location, but the only accessible road is one I have never been down and have no information on, then I guess I have no chouce but to risk it" "oh, a strange guy is following me around, better just ignore it until it is too late" Like goddamn... and any time there are competent and smart people in a horror movie, it kills them off immediately, leaving the dumb people to once again make all the worst decisions.

The opening scene of this film always gets me. When Don is running from the house and you see all the infected chasing him, gives me the creeps. Also, the rage virus is purely just that, rage. I'm glad you're not referring to them as the classic zombie this time.

My ex looked at me and asked would you leave me and run I said only if you ran after that kid instead of running away with me
