As one who spent more than a decade in Europe, three countries, some of the arguments are nonsense, don't even fit the European life style. Many Europeans don't even want a car, the upkeep is too expensive - they prefer to use excellent public transportation systems. Europeans love to eat but not necessarily fast food. They actually eat much healthier than we. Not only do they have excellent access to universal healthcare but good labor protection laws. Being the richest country globally comes at a cost - we are running a 19th century economy where nearly all the benefits go to the top at the expense of the many.

Honestly I’d shave a few years off the end of my life to live in a comfortable house with a large plot of land I could garden and relax. The pandemic opened my eyes to the value of a big yard.

Great segment, but I want to add that in something like transportation, one of the reasons why so many drive when ss that our public transports are often filthy and dangerous despite more than adequate budgets. It's very, very different than what you find in Europe and Asia. What I'm trying to say is that although Derek Thompson states that we are focusing on the wrong things with things like the culture wars, often times the culture stuff is intertwined with policy and you need to fix both.

You should really start linking articles in your description if you use them.

I think people make their own choices. Some people choose wisely some choose poorly.

It all comes down to the corporations running our country and the wealth discrepancy in our country. The pollution our corporations are allowed to create, dumping poisons in our water, being allowed to have monopolies on baby products that are less nutritious. Etc etc
