This is a quite an amazing discovery by ASAS-SN, given that it's a network of 20-or-so automated 14cm Nikon telephoto 400mm/F2.8 lenses spread around the world by the Ohio State University. ASAS-SN also discovered the most powerful supernova ever discovered, ASASSN-15lh, which was 20 times brighter than the entire Milky Way. Although optimized to discover supernovae, it will be interesting to see what else ASAS-SN discovers in the future.
Every 43.8 years you have to change the lightbulb. Mystery solved.
Its the Cheshire Cat star, it disappears and only leaves behind its smile.
