Reviewer Dissonance: *Weapons* is a Comedy Mislabeled as Horror
Understand why the film Weapons fails to meet intense horror expectations and how its strong comedic elements redefine the viewing experience.
Short Summary
- The film relies heavily on undercutting tension with humor, leading to audience laughter over fear.
- The central mystery premise is creatively structured but ultimately delivers underwhelming and sometimes illogical answers.
- Director Zack Krizner’s style creates a visually interesting film, despite its confusing tonal execution.
This review breaks down the divisive reception of the new film Weapons, contrasted against its 100% Rotten Tomatoes score. The core argument dismisses its classification as pure horror, positioning it instead as a dark comedy where tension is constantly neutralized by jokes. Readers will learn how specific directorial choices, especially in the climax, clash with the audience’s expectations for traditional genre thrills.

The funniest part about the movie was when Archer kept throwing James like a rag doll. Shit had me dying
I was scared this was about battlefield 6
The scene with the father waking up and yelling “What the FUCK?!” made my entire theatre laugh.
The scene where Josh Brolin repeatedly throws that one guy around is one I don’t think I’ll be forgetting anytime soon 😂😂😂
" I did not care for the Godfather " -Charles (black shirt version)
Everyone in my theatre laughed at the lady w scissors walking to the car but to me it was one of the scariest things I’ve ever seen in a theatre
I just left from seeing it and everyone in the audience laughed when the lady walked out with the scissors and then shut up when she got close to the car, laughed when she began walking away again and INSTANTLY shut up right when we saw her start shaking from the car opening! That was definitely an amazing scene
Funny how expectations ruin movies. I went in knowing nothing and thought it was amazing. Seems like Charlie went in expecting to be terrified so he didn’t like it because that’s not what it is
There’s old man Charles shakin his fist at the youngins again
look, I personally believe "30 year old man goes against the grain the old fashioned way" is a 10/10. How dare you badmouth it.
