Moral Dilemmas: Stopping Scams, Defending Workers, and Post-Divorce Boundaries
Discover why intervening against a yard sale scammer, defending a crying cashier, and refusing to equalize financial gifts across divorce boundaries all resulted in the original poster earning zero out of five buttholes.
Short Summary
- Uphold basic decency rules over exploitative capitalist logic when encountering obvious scams against vulnerable people.
- Actively defend low-level workers being abused by customers, as vulnerability is a key factor in moral obligation.
- Maintain strict financial boundaries regarding resources provided to your own children versus step- or half-siblings post-divorce. This discussion analyzes three distinct conflicts where the OP corrected unfair behavior: a sales negotiation, a customer service dispute, and adherence to childcare expectations following a complex separation.

First story: I think OP did the right thing because the buyer tried to strong arm the old lady. It's wrong to try to strong arm an old newly widowed lady like that.
Story 1: I know NOTHING about golf…but even I know 200$ for a full set of clubs is LAUGHABLY low…adding in the quality of the clubs its pretty easy to say that guy was trying ti scam an old lady and Op is CLEARLY NTA
Pissing off a rich golfer sounds like a wonderful day out.
Going so easy on 12-17 year olds because they’re “not adults” is part of the problem. 12+ is old enough to understand not being a jerk at bare minimum
I recently ordered a photo book from CVS. When I got there the photos were printed and that was with the book but the book was not bound together. Turns out the employees were never actually trained on how to fully bind a book. So we spent the next 20 minutes looking online at tutorials on the machine and figuring out how to do it and we figured it out. In the end , we gave each other high fives. I could have gotten frustrated at them or angry and yelled , but then I would have just felt like a jack*ss. Be kind people!
Story 2: I was a cashier during the pandemic. I got sworn at, watched coworkers get stuff thrown at them, and generally treated like crap by quite a few customers (most were awesome and understanding). I would have given anything to have someone speak up, because I wasn’t allowed to. We just had to take it. And I’m more than double that poor kids age.
12 is old enough to understand that not everything is about your liking
Let the rich guy rip off a couple thousand of a freshly widowed old lady. What the hell kind of co-workers are they to defend such behaviour over a "good deal". And the free market argument actually goes hard here, goated rslash take. :)
Story 3: while I can’t speak for the daughter, I know if my friend acted like that for my birthday, then expected my parent to cut it short for her I’d be pissed at her. OP didn’t do anything to feel sorry for, meanwhile this spoiled brat did nothing but complain, then her terrible mother tried to badmouth OP to everyone. And then got butt hurt because all the other parents understandably called her out, so now she’s taking it out on the kids. OP did nothing, and with the way that girl act I bet the second she throw a tantrum her mom’s gonna take it back anyway.
Weird thing I've noticed, not all people who play golf are terrible people, but all terrible people play golf.
