Tbh descending to the bottom of the Marianas Trench and returning back safely is just as impressive of a technological feat as landing a man on the moon.
Middle of the night tv
Notice how they didn't make a submersible made of carbon fiber
I miss when the history Channel use to be like this
If I heard the outer glass crack I'd have headed back up. Insane they kept going.
I show this in my earth science class every single year. One of my favorites
I find it fascinating that 1 - Sonar was created to find enemy subs, now used to map ocean floors, 2 - Radar was created to spot enemy planes, now used to monitor weather and 3 seismometers were created to pick up atomic bomb testing, now used to monitor earthquakes
Watching this at 2:57 AM bc I started thinking about the ocean floor and had to know 🤦♂️
the glass cracked and they decided to continue... they must have had a 2nd sub just to carry their huge balls!
Mind boggling knowing that the Mariana trench is more than 1500 miles long and about 45 miles wide!! It's not just a deep hole
