Description

As iconic as the Toyota 4Runner is, it’s never quite been able to keep up on the trails with the Ford Bronco or Jeep Wrangler. Has the redesigned 2025 4Runner finally caught up to its rivals? In this comparison test video, Edmunds’ Brian Wong puts all three to the test off-road to find out. 00:00 Intro 00:41 Hill Climb 07:58 Articulation (Ziggurat) Test 12:11 Rock Crawl 19:20 Trail Drive 23:57 Edmunds' Take Subscribe to Edmunds https://www.youtube.com/user/edmundsvideo?sub_confirmation=1 for the latest car news, car reviews, car comparisons, car shopping and advice. I'm not sure this felt unbiased. On the first hill climb, the 4Runner seemed to have the least slip of all 3. The driver used more throttle, and both Jeep and Bronco spun tires, got sideways, and did some digging. I didn't see any of that with the 4Runner.

You didn't actually lock the rear of the 4runner on the hill climb. The locker doesn't engage in 4h. That means it probably did the best.

On the 1st hill test: You cannot lock the rear axle in 4 Hi on the Toyota 4Runner! The way I saw it , the 4 Runner bested the Wrangler at least on the first hill. Also I would not have used 4 Hi on that steep of a hill. I am still watching the video and enjoy most of your videos.

Strange off-road test, where you don’t use the off-road capabilities. Did you also remember to inflate the tires to 50psi like the Rivian R1S Emma tested on the same hill?

I have a new Bronco. Perfect balance on and off-road. Love it! 4Runner can't take the roof and the doors off and yes, I do take them both off. It's a great feeling! My family loves it.

The sixth-generation Toyota 4Runner is here with a new Trailhunter trim that's meant to compete against the apex predators off-road: the Jeep Wrangler and the Ford Bronco. The Trailhunter's increased capability makes it a more viable option than ever before, but its snorkel (to keep dirt out of the intake) also projects plenty of wooshy turbo noises straight into the cabin. Would this be a deal-breaker for you? Let us know in the comments below!

Please find qualified offroaders for these. Ive tried all 3, have owned a 3rd gen 4runner and wrangler JK. Yet, it was clear to me that the most complete package and best value was the Ford Bronco Badlands. Got it early 2025, Im at 20k, lots of offroad and its been a joy

There's nothing like the feeling of having the doors and roof off on a beautiful day. For that reason alone, I'd choose either the Bronco or Wrangler.
