Description

This video essay analyzes Anthony Hopkins' acting as Hannibal Lecter in The Silence of the Lambs as well as Red Dragon and Hannibal. Anthony Hopkins was very intentional with his performance with how he spoke, stood and never blinked, but he also improvised from the script in spots that really changed the tone of the character. The Silence of the Lambs is owned by MGM Amazon Studios, and Red Dragon and Hannibal are owned by Universal Pictures. When Anthony Hopkins first received the script for Silence of the Lambs. He initially thought it was a children's story. Such an incredible performance.

I am Deaf, and when I saw this movie, I was terrified by Lecter. His facial expressions and disposition totally frightened me, without even hearing him.

One of the best performances of all time. Anthony Hopkins deserved the Academy Award and praise he has gotten from this performance. Great video man, hope you’re doing well. Take care!

I like that he didn't bother 'researching' serial killers for the role. The most iconic killers have very singular personalities, completely in their own world, so emulating one makes little sense from an artistic standpoint.

An added testimony to his acting skill is that he actually terrified his supporting actress.

I love the fact that he said it was too distasteful researching these serial killers.

The audience doesn't blink either when Hopkins is present. And mostly don't breathe either. Utterly commanding and mesmerizing.

I never knew Hopkins had added so much of his own ideas / improvs into the character. Genius actor

This is a masterclass on acting. This film absolutely deserves the title of best suspense/horror of all time. Simply timeless
