People are being way too harsh on the Duffer Bros. They only had three years and $500 million to make season 5, cut them some slack.
The most unrealistic part of this was that Writer Guy was holding an actual script.

Demogorgon fatigue in stranger things is like having a xenomorph fatigue while watching aliens.

The most ridiculous thing about the metal plates being thrown over the portals is the fact that it's made very clear, in the first season, that the Demogorgons can just rip holes in reality wherever the hell they want.
