Description

This one's gonna be a bit of a hot take haha. I think I get where these episodes are coming from. This show has created a really interesting world, with a ton of characters who need to be wrapped up. However, it's an undeniable shame that it means the core dynamic gets put on the backburner. On paper, I think the hot spot episode had a lot going for it. That sort of tight, suffocating narrative can be really gripping if done right. I just don't know if Hotspot of all people was the one we needed as our anchor. Outside of the one fight scene, we hardly know him, so its hard to get invested in his relationship with Robin being exploited. On the flip side, the Titans East have proven their ability to carry episodes already. And you KNOW I have nothing bad to say about Control Freak. But, unfortunately, their ep just felt...bland. I don't know, maybe I'm an old geezer who doesn't understand artisty. Or, maybe this was a very weird choice lmao. At least we can all agree that things would be better if they gave the one-off villains this focus instead lol

To be fair… robin is actually known for hanging out in dark alleys… that’s the bat family’s whole thing

I love the consistency that whenever Madam Rouge is in disguise, she always gasses herself up as the most threatening villain ever seen. Never noticed that on my first watch but that's a really funny bit of continuity

I cannot express enough how much I love Speedy's logic. - Shoot missiles with arrows - No arrows? - BECOME ARROWS Oliver would be so proud

ok so fun fact, "Aqualad, bold and daring marine marvel" and "Speedy, whose fantastic arrows perform awesome feats" were actually the descriptors given to these characters in the theme song of the short lived 60's teen titans animated show, so its a cool titans history easter egg, and also another tv reference for the tv guy to make

Gotta love Control Freak’s plan is basically the same as putting them in individual Danger Rooms

fun fact: the shark named Glen is a reference to the creator of the show, Glen Murakami

Fun fact: Hotspot is one of the main inspirations for Heatblast.

It’s funny that the Brain’s plan relies on getting a Titans communicator without the rest of the titans noticing, and they only had two chances because the only people the titans had given them to at that point were Titans East, Wildebeest, and Hot Spot.

Nikhil IS going to watch the movie, right? Because that movie was the TRUE finale to the show. It took the show's anime inspiration and kicked it up to 11 and thank god for it, because the character design for the movie-original villains was just SUPERB.

I think Control Freak could have rebranded as like a Hero Consultant/Coach. They approach him, he analyzes his "clients" and sets up unique challenges for them. It's what he's doing already minus the mass murder threats, plus he'd actually be getting praised for it
