My brother and his wife lived in Malibu in the hills by Balcolm Canyon and they were burned out of their home about eight years ago. They spent $11,000 in permits and we’re never allowed to build. The property is vacant to this day and all the money that was spent was wasted. Don’t think for a moment that the coastal commission and the other permitting authorities are going to allow you to build they have other plans.

The worst part isn't the regulations. It's the fact that it didn't have to burn in the first place.

Lived, worked and built in Southern California most of my life and I can tell you the hardest place to get things done from a construction standpoint is Los Angles city/county. If there is even the most remote possibility that something will happen with those people it will. They can invent reasons for it. Really.
