Alex O'Connor argues that if radical emergence cannot explain consciousness, then consciousness may already be fundamental to reality. Do you think consciousness emerges from the brain, or is it fundamental to the universe itself?
Kuhn’s genius for asking exactly the questions that need to be asked never ceases to amaze me. That’s why I’ve become addicted to these videos.
Must say that the guy formulates a rather compelling argument on the Idealism vs Panpsychism distinction.
I watch a lot of Alex's content. It's very, very refreshing to hear someone ask HIM questions in fields like this where they actually want to know his take on things, even though he isn't the expert in the room. It leaves so much room for discussion in a respectful and 'fleshing out ideas' manner.
Such a privilege to be able to participate in these thoughts. And I absolutely love that Alex and Robert have met, and are exchancing ideas, producing content together, and I dare say, building a friendship. It could be said that we're witnessing a "passing of the torch" from R.L.K to A.O'C. One closer to the beginning, the other, closer to the end of the path. And we all, together, closer to truth.
This is one of the most thought provoking interview. Thanks!
It's a privilege indeed to listen to such brilliant minds exchanging ideas. This is pure gold. Thank you.
That was an interesting point about how there is this chasm of understanding that's missing through science at the base level. It's like science can tell us how things work but can't tell us what things are.
Great conversation. looking forward to the remaining parts.
