The best decision I ever did was paid off my mortgage early as hell. The security bubble that it creates is very beneficial
A paid for home is an amazing feeling though. One less thing to worry about
Yep. I had several people tell me to not pay off early 25 years ago, for same reasons. But Mama didn't raise no fool, paying off early is guaranteed money with zero risk. I doubled down and paid off my 30 year loan (6.8%) in 7 years. And btw, I still maxed out my 401k contributions at the same time. It doesn't have to be a one or the other situation. You can do both. I lived "low on the hog" in those years. No regrets. I reap the rewards today. Every day is Saturday. 😂
now I've hit $170,590. I was having this exact conversation with my son the other night-generational wealth isn't just about getting money. It's about teaching everyone not only how to make it, but also how to maintain it. It does no good for me to provide for my family if they don't understand how to manage and sustain it
thank you random guy on youtube
Paying off your mortgage should be your number 1 priority. Things happen in life that are out of your control. But knowing that your family has a place to stay and owned is the greatest investment.
Numbers vs freedom, freedom always wins for me.
Everybody I ever see do these evaluations always forgets one key part. Once you pay off your house early, say 5 years early you now free up your entire mortgage payment to invest. If you were investing you would still only be investing that $500 per month while the person who paid off their house may be investing $3000 a month for those 5 years. It very quickly catches up and sometimes even passes the person who was just investing.

Paid my mortgage off at 36. Missed investing opportunities. But now I’m smarter and making better investments in stocks than I would have.
