Description

Historian and best-selling author Rutger Bregman joins Jon Stewart to unpack his latest book, “Moral Ambition,” which is a call to action for people, especially those with education and privilege, to devote their talent and resources to careers and causes that make the world a better place. He describes how the political left has often made the mistake of placing moral purity above political relevance, and what they can learn from conservatives about building small movements into a larger, results-oriented coalition. Bregman also addresses the problem of what he calls our “inverse welfare society,” in which most high-paying, high-status jobs are inessential, and how his organization, The School for Moral Ambition, aims to reverse that structure by helping people quit their corporate jobs and transition into careers of positive impact. #DailyShow #RutgerBregman #MoralAmbition Subscribe to The Daily Show: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCwWhs_6x42TyRM4Wstoq8HA/?sub_confirmation=1 Follow The Daily Show: Twitter: https://twitter.com/TheDailyShow Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/thedailyshow Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/thedailyshow Stream full episodes of The Daily Show on Paramount+: http://www.paramountplus.com/thedailyshow Follow Comedy Central: Twitter: https://twitter.com/ComedyCentral Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/ComedyCentral Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/comedycentral About The Daily Show: Jon Stewart and The Best F**king News Team host The Daily Show, an Emmy and Peabody Award-winning program analyzing the biggest stories in news, politics, and culture through a sharp, satirical lens. Thank you so much for having me Jon! Enjoyed the conversation immensely. Like so many here, I've spent many hundreds (thousands?) of hours watching you & the Daily Show, so it was a great privilege (and quite surreal..!) to be on the show. And for anyone who's interested - join our global community of ambitious idealists! 🚀

I can see why Jon Stewart had Mr. Bregman on his show. Those are interesting and appealing ideas.

Thanks Jon. Rutger Bregman became my hero during the Davos gathering a few years ago of billionaires in Switzerland every year to pat each other on the back for all their charity work when he looked around and called it a Fireman's convention where water was forbidden. His TAXES TAXES TAXES became the rallying cry for everyone who has suffered the consequence of living with the burden of being the only group paying them. Followed him through his important common sense Ted TALKS. I think Trump will be the tipping point where every country agrees that government should not be a fortune making operation for those who take an oath to serve the people and uphold the Constitution.

We need more voices like Rutger Bregman. Sidenote: the directness of the Dutch is delightfully refreshing.

Rutger Bregman is my grandfather reincarnate! Grandpa was a Dutch national and grandpa said no one should be allowed to be a millionaire (billionaire today 'cause Grandpa died many years ago....) I remember Rutger's speech in front of Davos many years ago. He was so right!

One of the most effective versions of this from recent history was "Nader's Raiders," a collective of ivey league lawyers, researchers, and activists who implemented most famously required seatbelts on cars, but also contributed to the founding of the EPA, and more. Apparently, at the time, about 25% of all graduates from these ivey league schools wanted to join and make a difference, so the talent pool Nader was able to pull from was huge. Nader will talk about this often, himself, how you only really need 3% of the population to enact systemic change. It's a lot, but not really.
