Pesci getting whacked while narrating is genius
This is actually a very accurate history of Las Vegas with the names changed. The Tangiers was the Stardust, Ace Rothstein was Lefty Rosenthal, Nikki Santoro was Tony Spilotro, the Gaming Commissioner played by Dick Smothers was the late US Senator Harry Reid (who was on the Gaming Commission in the 1970s), former Mayor Oscar Goodman plays himself when he was a Mob defense lawyer. In the montage of murders as the Mob cleans up, real hitman Frank Culotta (credited as "Frank Marino" because he was in witness protection during filming), re-enacted a hit that he actually did.
Sharon Stone has said she never got a good part again after 1995’s Casino and described herself as “the invisible actress”. Stone lost out on winning an Oscar for Martin Scorsese’s crime thriller Casino to Susan Sarandon in Dead Man Walking. I personally think this is her best performance as an actress that I have seen.
Every single outfit De Niro wears in this film is amazing.
Now every time I get a blueberry muffin I want to be sure each one has an equal amount of blueberries.
10/10 The most uncompromising studio picture of the 1990s. A complex, multilayered, beautifully directed film, Martin Scorsese's Casino is a masterpiece of destruction and betrayal. Few films take so many chances and succeed so wonderfully. It takes some of the basic formulas that were found in Goodfellas and applies them to another type of story - while Goodfellas' view was ground-level, telling the story of the "blue collar" gangsters of NYC, this film tells the story of the guys who controlled those guys. And it's fascinating to watch these people run Las Vegas, control the flow of money, and then fall from the heights of power due to lust, hubris, and greed. An amazing film that will hopefully get the recognition it deserves in the years to come.
Before John Wick was killing people in bars with pencils, there was Nicky killing people in bars with ball point pens.
All that Pesci rubbed off on Tara. Dropping 100 f-bombs per minute in that post analysis lmao. Queen.
Goodfellas has two narrators as well, Henry and Karen.
